Tips to Help Parents Practice Proper Baby Skin Care Resource: ansr beam
The daily bath and after bath lotion application is not all that is needed for proper baby skin care. It is important that every inch of your child's skin stays healthy and clean. This means that you need to take very good care of your son or daughter's laundry, limit exposure to the sun and treat any potential skin conditions as soon as they develop. It is important to remember that a baby's skin is way more sensitive than an adult's skin. Your baby needs your watchful eyes and care to make sure that skin conditions are stopped before they start. Thankfully, baby skin care is not all that complicated. In fact, you can probably develop quite a good routine early on. Here are some hints and tricks to assist you.
Your baby's bath can be short; it does not have to be long. In fact, keeping your newborn in the bath for too long can actually be harmful! Your baby's bath only needs to be a few minutes long--only enough time to get wet, get soapy and get rinsed. After the bath is over, apply some light baby moisturizer or lotion and then towel dry off your baby's skin. Dry your baby's skin completely or skin rashes or yeast infections can develop. After all, newborn's skin has lots of little folds and ripples that moisture can hide in. Make sure that the towel you use is soft!
The problem is that babies are able to inhale the fine dust that occurs when you sprinkle talcum powder on your child and yeast can grow in corn based starches. Believe it or not, the best thing to do is simply wash the baby's bottom with warm water and dry him with a clean cloth before putting a new diaper on him. This will keep your baby's skin clean and healthy and help you avoid rashes and other issues. Use a gentle detergent on your baby's clothes--do not use the detergent you use on your own. The detergent you use on your clothing is often too harsh for use on baby's clothes. Baby clothes are softer than adult clothing and regular laundry detergent can strip them of their softness. Using a gentler soap will help your baby's clothes stay soft and it is easier to rinse off of the clothing which will help you avoid skin problems.
During the first six months of your baby's life you want to do everything you can to keep him or her out of direct sunlight because direct sunlight can prove too harsh for your baby's skin, which will be very sensitive to light. After your son or daughter is six months old it is okay to let him or her sit in direct sunlight provided you cover the baby completely with strong sunscreen.
Newborns need specific skin care products. Just because a product is safe for babies over six months (or toddlers) does not mean that is necessarily safe for a newborn. Life outside the womb is much different than life inside the womb which means that it takes time for your newborn baby's skin to adjust. It is extra sensitive and more prone to irritation than the skin of older babies and toddlers. When you go shopping for new skin care products for your baby make sure that you choose products that are meant for newborns. There is a wide variety of options available to help you protect your baby's skin and keep it clean. Remember, good skin care habits start early so it is a good idea to do everything you can to develop a good baby skin care routine.
Baby skin care extends beyond the baby's face and involves taking care of the rest of the baby's body as well.
